It's Monday... The first day of Excerpt Week!

Today, I'm highlighting my Romantic Suspense SEPTEMBER HEAT.

september_heat

Rose St. Johns is being chased out of New York, trying to stay one step ahead of an overzealous fan that the police and her agent aren't above labeling stalker, although the last place she would expect them to send her is Las Vegas. Furious with her situation, fear is something she is slow to admit to. But circumstances don't allow her to be ambivalent for long when she is tracked to her hideaway. Her only hope lies in a man she knew as a boy, whose secrets are his, and his alone.

Excerpt: (Never before seen! Unless you have the book! hahaha!)

Gavin needed to stop. He needed to quit kissing her, but he couldn’t. He had a
legitimate reason for doing it, but just the feel of her lips became reason enough to
continue. He slid his other hand through her hair, holding her steady and he slowly
stopped thinking.

Rose’s lips trembled against his and once again the cad in him wanted to keep
going, wanted to make love to her. Gavin wanted it too.

“Gavin,” she whispered as he sipped at her mouth. The husky sound of her voice
brought the fire higher.

He leaned his forehead to hers, fighting himself. “You don’t need this, Rose. I’m
one big problem you don’t need,” he whispered hoarsely.

He felt her hand on his cheek and his skin burst into flame at her touch. He
moaned deep in his throat when she swept her tongue against his mouth.

“Gavin, do you want me?” she asked.

His gaze snapped to hers, a forest green that impaled him. He groaned again as she
lifted her lips to his and he could no longer deny
himself. “Rose, I have wanted you forever, but I am no good for you.” He tried to make
her understand, tried to make himself pull away, but there was no turning back when
her sweet voice hit him between the eyes.

“Gavin, don’t stop.” Her gaze was intense and he swallowed.

“This is too fast, Rose. You’re in shock,” he said, needing her to stop him. His
hands were already cradling her, pulling her down to lie next to him. He kissed her
cheeks. “You don’t know what you’re asking.”

“Yes, I do.”

He groaned deep once more as her hands lifted and spread against his chest. He
loved the feeling of her palms against his body.

“Rose,” he sighed. “I could ruin you,” he finally threw out to her, needing to give
her one last chance, but his warning faded into the room around them when she pushed
him back, her hands planted on his chest and she lowered herself to kiss him.

He had never tasted a kiss like hers. He had never had a woman who could take
control from him, to one he would gladly give it...

Death Masks by Eternal Press : www.eternalpress.ca

http://www.eternalpress.ca/deathmasks.html

Book Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lp2zpDNMfmM

Thriller 978-0-9804739-4-0 $5.95 U.S.

THE BLURB:

Bill Cristo takes up walking as per his doctor’s orders to lose weight and improve his health. While at the metro park, he witnesses an assault. The assailant turns on him and he wakes in the hospital with a nasty bump on his head, wondering why he isn’t dead.

The news reports nothing on any attack in the metro park but Bill can’t let it go...not when he realizes there are other young men missing from the same area. He digs up what he can on his own, drawing further attention from the murderer. Will he be able to figure out who the killer is before it reaches his live-in girlfriend?

THE HARD QUESTIONS:

What is a death mask?

Throughout the ages, man often made masks of the deceased faces. It is a way of honoring the dead and, before photographs became available, to preserve the visage of the deceased person for the living to view. There are many in museums around the world including some famous people such as Agamemnon, Cromwell, Edison, Newton and Volaire. During my recent trip to Germany I discovered several in museums including the last Teutonic Knight Hochmeister, Archduke Eugen, and two rulers: Frederic II and Frederic Wilhelm IV. .

I made a plaster cast of my own face to use for promoting Death Masks and the detail of the features surprised me. The death masks I had the opportunity to see also had great detail. FYI: the one I did of myself is technically called a Life Mask since I am still living.

What does a death mask have to do with the book?

One thing many serial murderers have in common is collecting something from their victims. In this story the killer makes a death mask of each victim. It’s also intended to be a play on the words since there is something unexpected about the murderer revealed at the very end so the fact that the identity remained hidden is a kind of mask.

Why a story about a serial killer? Aren’t those overdone (SPOILER ANSWER)?

I decided early on I wanted my protagonist to be someone different than those you find in a lot of thrillers. Bill is an IT computer support tech instead of a detective or someone with law enforcement experience. His curiosity keeps him on the trail but his lack of experience causes him to make mistakes.

The murderer is female. Her sex isn’t revealed until the last chapter. In the opening scene it is left unclear she is even human.

Why a female murderer? (SPOILER QUESTION)

Women serial murderers tend to be better at killing than their male counterparts. They go for longer periods of time before being caught, with higher body counts for several reasons: they seldom talk about their crimes to anyone, they tend to take choose less violent ways of death, and for women—many of their killings are viewed as mercy deaths and therefore more acceptable to society. For example: the woman whose elderly relatives die in her care. The rest of her family may not realize she poisoned them, thinking they passed on of old age. I find that concept extremely chilling.

Why did you decide to publish Death Masks with an e-book publisher (Eternal Press)?

I find every path to publishing valid in one form or another. My first book came out as under a print on demand format because I had the opportunity to do it free. I do editing for Eternal Press and so took the opportunity when offered to me to try my hand at an ebook. It may not be the best choice for every book but I believe a good one for this story. I prefer to form my own opinions about such things with a little of my own experience.

What are you working on now?

I have a horror novel tentatively titled, Holy Blessed Homicide, which I am revising. It is also out in submission.

I am also in the first rewrites of a story about the Amazon warrior women from the region of Turkey. It was my 2007 nanowrimo project but I have two more in the series planned. The first of which is brainstormed and the first few chapters written.

And Right Now At 15% Off!

Blurb:

Miranda Sayers's best friend is her wheelchair. It has been her refuge for most of her twenty-six years. But the time has come when her grandmother can no longer help take care of her. Now Randi is faced with having to survive on her own, and unfortunately that future doesn't look promising.

Collin First's job on Earth is to find the Ducts between his world and this one. As an Extinguisher, he has to eliminate those passageways before any of the dangerous creatures from Sandeflay can pass through and harm any humans. The last thing he expected when he took the assignment was to find was the beautiful, crippled woman living one floor below his apartment.

Before either of them can contend with the impossibility of their relationship, Randi and Collin are thrown together, seeking each other's love and help. And when circumstances force Randi to follow Collin to Sandeflay, the greatest miracle of all awaits them both.

*****

Excerpt:

Collin stared out over the roadway but his mind was not on watching the endless parade of people on their way to work or on whatever business they needed to attend. He was recalling the early morning conversation he and his father had shared less than an hour ago. And the news the man had relayed that had chilled him like nothing had since the death of his mother.

"How is Randi doing?" The conversation started out innocently enough. It was daybreak. Dr. Tradi had already come and gone, and Dr. Mendall had signed off on his release. He was free to go home as soon as someone came to pick him up.

"She’s asleep right now, but she had a rough night of it." The moment the words were out of his father’s mouth, Collin sensed something was wrong. There could be any number of reasons why Randi had been unable to get a decent night’s rest. For beginners, being in a strange new world was enough to throw anyone off balance. However, it was Marc’s next sentence that nearly threw him into paralysis.

"I think her body is already starting to reject us."

"No." He didn’t realize he had spoken aloud. It was too soon, his mind tried to argue. She couldn’t be showing signs this early. Not yet. Not yet!

"I’m afraid so, Son."

"But . . . is that normal? I mean, isn’t it unusual for her to be having problems this soon? She hasn’t been here a full day yet!"

"To be honest, I don’t know."

"How can we find out? Would they have record of it at the hall?" The Guild’s Hall of History kept records of every Extinguisher, including those rare liaisons between Earth women. It had been at the hall where he'd learned about the problems Randi would encounter if he was to bring her over. But because of his haste to get back to Earth and back to her, he hadn’t read the entire manuscript.

As if reading his mind, Marc drolly commented, "Didn’t pay attention to the full report, I take it."

No, he wasn’t paying attention. In fact there had been nothing else on his mind since he had awakened to find her leaning over him. Despite every muscle in his body screaming for him to entwine his fingers through her helotus-colored hair and pull her down on top of him, he had forced a smile on his face and promised himself their time would come tomorrow. Tomorrow the doctors would let him go. And tomorrow...was today.

"How bad was it?"

He watched his father’s tiny image on the watch lens shrug. "The house didn’t raise an alarm, but it let me know she had gone into the kitchen. She drank quite a bit of IDA. That’s all I can tell."

Collin frowned in confusion. "She drank the IDA?"

"Yeah." His father seemed just as confused. It wasn’t common practice to give ida to an Earth woman having rejection fits. He remembered reading at least that much. Normally when the time came when the body began to break down, the doctors would inject her with a stabilization compound that would hopefully last until the woman could be taken back.

"And she’s okay now?"

His father nodded. "As far as I can tell. I looked in on her a few minutes ago. She looks like she’s resting peacefully. Oh, and that tygren spent the entire evening keeping her in sight."

That last made him smile. He’d had no doubt the animal would keep guard over her.

"I’ll be staying over at Vesta’s if you need me."

Collin nodded at the small screen on his arm. Other than Marc’s sister and another aunt on his mother’s side, there were no other family members.

"Are you going to tell her about Randi?"

"I’m debating it. Oh, you need to get her a couple changes of clothes since we didn’t have time to send over anything of hers. You won’t need to get much, considering how she’s already reacting to our world."

"I understand." A trip to a women’s clothier, a stopover at the Guild hall, and a tour of the city. But not before they went–

"Sir? Did you need something?"

Collin turned around to see a nurse standing at the door. "Please order me a scootcher since the doctor doesn’t want me doing a lot of walking for a couple of days." The nurse gave a slight nod and left.

Collin gave a final glance out the window, then turned to pace the floor for the fifth or sixth time. He felt restless and full of energy. More importantly, he hurt. No, he burned. He burned to finally hold her in his arms. And to hold her tightly against him—man to woman, skin to skin.

When he had believed they would have a week together, he had planned to take things a bit slower. He wanted to woo her, show her how special she was to him, and finally culminate their time together with a proposal.

Yes. A proposal. He glanced over his shoulder at the sound of footsteps nearing the door, but when they passed by without stopping, he relaxed.

He wanted to marry Randi, despite the objections he knew they would face. He had read and reread the laws governing Extinguishers, and there was nothing that said he couldn’t marry her. That was the fatal loophole in the law. It specifically said he could not be romantically involved with one from Earth, but it did not say he couldn’t marry her. There was no law prohibiting them from becoming husband and wife. Which meant that once they were separated, Randi was sent back to the city, and he was reassigned to another sector, he could legally still help her—financially, if not personally.

And there was nothing the Guild or anyone could do to stop him. In fact, they would become legally obligated to see to her comfort and safety, as was required of the Guild for any family member of an Extinguisher.

*****

Review:

Ms. Mooney doesn’t shy away from the issue of a relationship between a paraplegic and a handsome stud. Instead she lets the story grow with it.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Sandeflay. It parallels our world but some things are so much more advanced just as some things seem primitive in an exotic kind of way. I’m thrilled that I couldn’t predict how this author would work things out. Just when I thought I’d guessed the path she would take she’d veer off on a side path that was much better than the simple storyline I’d envisioned.
This story is rich in characters, love, eroticism and beautiful fantasy. Linda Mooney has done an excellent job of penning a story that will be fun for anyone who likes to get lost in a great book.

A new me!

I am pleased to announced that I will be writing for a new
publisher!

I'll be writing some spicier works under the name of
Diana DeRicci with Liquid Silver Books!

If you have enjoyed the emotion, suspense or the fantasy of
my original writing but would like to venture on with something
a little more grown up, please feel free to visit my new site!

These works will be kept separate since the content is well
above what most of my readers would normally expect. The
stories themselves are still monogamous and homogeneous
(try spelling THAT without errors!) but due to the heat and
language of the story, it has been decided that the division
would best suit the stories to avoid any confusion about
individual content.

I will still be writing under my name, Diana Castilleja, and
have several releases in the works for 2009! I've been a busy
woman!

I'm very happy to be branching into this new spectrum of
writing and hope that you, my readers, enjoy it as much
as I did writing them.

Hugs,

MSNBC poll - VOTE FOR ROMANCE

MSNBC has a poll going that asks folks if they read romance. They're showing a low percentage in the YES! category. If you love romance, tell them

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25191970/

We need to have our voice heard...even though they are using the term 'bodice ripper'. Ignore the badly phrased question, and the even ruder answer description. If you read romance, vote!!

(Scroll down past the Danielle Steele's Rogue cover art to reach the poll link. It's a single link in a blue box, very buried)

Please share this!

Nekkid Fairies! It's out! Booyah!

Photobucket
A cult of sex faeries start taking men hostage…including Claire’s boyfriend.

Book Two of the Curtain Torn Series

When Myrna Terrence’s husband is abducted from her dream by fairies, she asks Claire for help. Claire investigates and discovers other married men of Four Corners have been kidnapped. Men who share enough similarities to suggest the kidnappings may be related.

She learns the abductions are the work of The Aeval, a cult of sex faeries whose mission is to ensure women are pleasured by their husbands. Dell decides he and Claire should go under cover—under the covers. By pretending to be a married couple who are having trouble in bed, they hope to lure The Aeval to them.

The plan works almost too well. They don’t have to fake the chemistry between them, nor the resulting frustration when they stop themselves from going too far. The Aeval take the bait, and Claire must confront a goddess, the truth, and her fears about Dell in an effort to save his life.

But if she succeeds, those same truths may be what sends him out of her life forever.

Warning: this title contains the following: hot nekkid men with wings, regular nudity, and prolonged sexual tension followed—finally—by explicit sex. And the faeries who punish husbands for not “pleasing” their wives are entirely fictional (sorry!).

Diego Viteri has lived for centuries with only one
real goal, to avenge himself against the one who
destroyed the man that he was and created the creature
he is now. He is suffering a growing loneliness that
is becoming impossible to ignore. His only reason for
not ending his life is to see that Brakka is served his
justice and then, Diego can rest.

The last thing he is expecting is to have an encounter
with a human woman who is willing to jump between himself
and Brakka during a harsh and bloody battle. Their one
meeting changes everything for Diego, bringing to life
emotions and wants that he has long believed to be as
dead as he is.

As he follows Titania and her band, his needs reshape into
something that he can’t ignore. Before he knows what he
has done, he bonds with her and sets into motion the very
thing he swore he would never do to another person. He has
shared his curse and in the process may have very well
killed her. And there is only one choice to be made to try
to save her.

Excerpt:

His hand covered hers where she cradled his cheek, and
he could not resist, could not find the strength to any
longer. He watched her, waiting for fear, apprehension,
anything to stop him. It never came as he dipped his head
to hers.

Her lips were so soft, so warm, he burst into flame at her
touch. She was the sweetest breath of life he had ever tasted.
Heat flared, roared to life between them.

He snapped up, his heart racing. Every fiber, every nerve ached,
needed. He had never felt this.

She sat up slowly, clutching the robe when the blanket fell
to her lap. Her hand lifted to her lips. “What was that?” Her
eyes were wide, staring at him. They glittered with a sapphire
magic.

His voice vanished. He plunged his hand into her hair, holding
her. He slanted his lips to hers and felt the fire again.
Heat, hungry desire swamped him. He seduced her mouth,
caressed and sipped.

Diego was going to explode into heat where he sat. Satin
skin, rich, fragrant hair, soft lips. He wanted more. He
demanded entry into her moist heat and growled when she
opened for him, hearing her whimpers. Her hand had found
his hair, held him as tightly. Passion had eclipsed all
other thoughts. He enfolded her into his embrace, pulling
her into his chest. Wanting her warmth, needing her
physical touch.

He kissed the corner of her delicious mouth, traveling
with tender brushes to her temple, hearing the erratic
pounding of her heart. The sweet call of blood, rushing
hotly through her body. Her scent invaded his every cell,
and where she touched, he felt her caresses through every
pore.

His tongue moved, and he found the tip of his fang. Burning
lust overrode reason. “Give yourself to me. Only to me,”
he breathed. “Just a taste.”

Titania’s skin was so soft beneath his touch, his hungers
beating at him, yet his strong arms remained gentle. She made
a faint, kittenish sound deep in her throat, and his body
tightened. His lips moved over burning skin, feeling the pulse
of her under his seeking caresses.

He breathed her name. The hand she held the robe with rose
over his shoulders, and he shook beneath her palm. He had to
have a taste, just a taste. To know her, her every thought,
her every wish, hope and desire.

He slid gently down the length of her silken neck, tasting her
with flicks of his tongue, sipping at the sensuous, sculpted
beauty of her. He inhaled, found the scent that belonged only
to her. Spring rain and heat. A seductress in his arms. Blood
raged through his body, through hers.

“Say yes,” he whispered, his breath hot against her neck. He
laved his tongue against her and felt her pulse leap in answer.
Her body tensed with awakening sensations. The scrape of his
teeth bringing her breathing to a standstill. He needed her
to give this to him. He realized he needed her to take his next
breath, but he would not take unless she gave. He suckled gently
at her pulse, bringing her own hungers to a crying pitch. “Just
a taste, cara. Say yes.”
